Fireworks Safety Tips from Vanderpump Dogs!

Did you know that more pets run away on the Fourth of July than on any other Holiday due to fireworks?

July 5th is the busiest day of the year for animal shelters nationwide, with an average increase of 30% of the number of lost pets between July 4th and 6th.

What can you do to help keep your pets safe this Holiday weekend?

1. Make sure your dog is microchipped and registered under your own name and up to date contact information.

2. Make sure that your pets collar is secure (you should be able to fit two fingers underneath the collar so it’s not too tight, but not so loose that it could come off over the head) and that the collar has an ID Tag with your up to date contact information.

3. Create a safe space for your furry friend. This may be a small room in your home where you can make sure windows can remain closed and try playing soothing music or white noise to block out the the noise of nearby fireworks.

4. If at all possible, do NOT bring your dog to fireworks display.

5. Take your dog for a long walk and/or make time for an extended play session just before the fireworks are to begin. This may help your dog settle down more easily when fireworks are on-going.

6. If you are hosting a BBQ or party at your house, remember to pick up any leftover items before letting your dog out as many can be harmful. This includes, lighter fluids, citronella candles and insect repellents.

We hope you enjoy your summer celebrations and keep your pets safe!
